WHY THE ANTENNA SEALS FAIL

After decades of sun, frost and car-wash chemicals the original W124 antenna seals harden, shrink and crack. Once they no longer grip the antenna tube, rainwater runs straight into the rear wing cavity and the antenna housing. The usual results are rust bubbling around the antenna hole, damp boot linings, a musty smell and a power antenna motor that corrodes and stops extending. This EPDM set restores the seal at both levels, the oval gasket on the wing and the ribbed sleeve around the tube.

CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY

This set is for the W124 saloon with the antenna in the rear wing. The W124 estate uses a different antenna seal, and coupe or cabriolet fitment is not confirmed in the parts catalogues, so compare against your old seals before ordering. Check the shape of your old pieces: an oval upper gasket and a ribbed lower sleeve. Colour may vary by production batch and does not affect fitment or performance.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Retract the antenna fully and open the boot side trim to reach the antenna housing if the lower sleeve is seated deep in the wing. Remove the antenna mast nut or ring, pull off the old seals and clean all rubber residue and dirt from the wing surface and the antenna tube. If rust has started around the hole, treat it before fitting the new seals. Slide the lower sleeve over the tube first, then seat the upper oval gasket flat against the wing so its lip seals all round, and refit the mast nut finger-tight plus a small turn so the rubber is not crushed. Run the antenna up and down a few times and check the boot side for water after the next wash.
