Expert Notes

WHY DASHBOARD GLOVE BOX COVERS FAIL ON THE FORD FUSION

The Ford Fusion Europe dashboard centre storage cover is a clip-mounted POM plastic component that sees daily use as a small-item storage solution for keys, cards, and other essentials. The hinge point and retaining clips are the first areas to fail — repeated opening and closing causes fatigue at the clip tabs, and a single heavy-handed closure can fracture the hinge entirely. A missing or broken cover leaves the storage cavity open, allowing small items to fall into the dashboard cavity and exposing electrical components behind the panel to dust accumulation. Replacement is a straightforward clip-fit job requiring no tools.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY

OEM reference 2N11N20164AE covers the full production run of the Ford Fusion Europe from 2002 to 2012 across all engine variants. The part is identical for LHD and RHD vehicles — the dashboard centre storage design did not change throughout the model's lifetime. The supersession reference 2N11N20164AF is the updated Ford part number for the same component and confirms continuity of fit. Confirm your vehicle is the European Fusion (JU_); the American Ford Fusion uses a completely different dashboard layout and is not compatible.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Before fitting, remove any broken clip fragments from the original cover that may remain in the dashboard mounting aperture — retained debris will prevent the new cover from seating flat and cause rattling. Align all clip points simultaneously before applying pressure; pressing from one corner risks snapping a tab on first installation. After fitting, open and close the cover several times to confirm smooth operation and full clip engagement at all points.
