WHY THE ORIGINAL CHECK STRAP FAILS

The door check strap holds the door at its open positions and stops it swinging too far, taking a sharp load every time the door is opened and closed. Over time the internal detent and its plastic guide wear, so the door no longer holds open on a slope, drifts shut, or clunks loudly over its stops. This replacement renews the detent action so the rear door holds and moves as it should.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE ORDERING

This is the rear check strap and the same part fits the left or right rear door of the Toyota Camry VI (XV40), corresponding to genuine OE 68630-33070. The front doors use a different part (OE 68610-33070). Compare the strap shape and mounting to your old part before ordering.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Open the door and support it. Remove the door trim to reach the check strap fixings, unbolt the strap from the door, and drive out the pivot pin at the pillar bracket. Fit the new strap, secure the pivot and the door bolts to the correct torque, and check that the door holds at each detent before refitting the trim.
