WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE PURCHASE

Each kit fits a front door lock of the X5 E53 and uses the 40 mm barrel housing — measure or compare your original barrel before ordering, as other BMW models use different barrel lengths and internal layouts that these kits do not fit. The kits reuse the original keys and tumbler packs; if a key is badly worn or tumblers are damaged, that rebuilt lock may remain stiff, so inspect them during disassembly.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Work one lock at a time: remove the door card, extract the cylinder from the handle assembly and photograph the tumbler pack and spring positions before opening the barrel — the tumblers must return in their exact original order for the key to work. Transfer the tumblers into the new housing one by one, fit the new cams, clamps and return spring, and grease the mechanism lightly with graphite or lock-specific lubricant rather than oil. Test each key through full lock and unlock cycles with the cylinder in hand before refitting, and confirm smooth operation from outside before closing the door.
