WHY THIS PART FAILS AND HOW THIS KIT SOLVES IT

The backrest recline handwheel on these VAG platforms transmits considerable torque every time the seat angle is adjusted, and the load concentrates on the small splined hub at its center. Over the years the hub cracks, the splines strip and the knob begins to slip on the shaft or falls off, leaving the backrest angle stuck. This POM replacement renews the complete handwheel with a fresh, tight spline engagement, restoring smooth and precise adjustment.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE PURCHASING

This knob is supplied in GREY to match grey interior trim; beige and black versions are available under separate references, so choose the colour matching your interior. Compare the hub spline pattern and the overall diameter with your original knob, and match the OEM reference 1J0881671 family against your seat hardware. One knob serves one seat side; order two if both front seats need renewal. Vehicles with fully electric seat adjustment do not use this handwheel.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Pull the old knob straight off the adjuster shaft; if it is seized, lever gently behind it with a plastic trim tool while pulling, protecting the seat trim with a cloth. Clean any plastic debris from the shaft splines, align the new knob and press it on firmly by hand until it seats fully against its stop. Rotate the knob through the full recline range in both directions to confirm positive engagement; a knob that clicks or slips under load has not seated completely on the splines.
