WHY THIS SEAL FAILS AND HOW THIS PART SOLVES IT

The sunroof lid seal is the most sun-baked piece of rubber on the entire car, cycling through decades of UV, summer heat and winter freezes directly on the roof. The EPDM eventually hardens, shrinks back from the corners and cracks along its length, and the first symptoms are classic: water stains spreading across the headliner after rain, a drip from the sunroof surround, wind roar at motorway speed and a glass panel that rattles over bumps. On the S14 the genuine seal is discontinued in many markets or priced at collector levels, which strands otherwise good cars with leaking roofs. This cut-to-fit replacement strip restores the soft, continuous sealing edge around the panel and brings back a dry, quiet cabin.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE PURCHASING

The verified reference vehicle for OE 91246-65F10 is the Nissan 240SX / Silvia (S14) with the factory sliding sunroof; the strip is also used on the X-Trail (T31) sunroof, and on that vehicle we recommend removing a section of your old seal and comparing its cross-section and channel width with the product photos before ordering, as panoramic and standard roofs differ. The strip is 3 metres long and is cut to length during fitting, so measure your panel perimeter to confirm coverage. This seal serves the glass lid edge; it does not repair the drain tubes or the roof aperture flange rubber, which are separate parts.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Remove the sunroof panel from the vehicle or tilt it to the service position for clean access. Strip every trace of the old rubber and any sealant from the panel channel, then degrease the channel so the new seal seats fully. Starting at the rear centre of the panel, press the strip into the channel and work around the perimeter without stretching the rubber, easing extra material into the corners; cut the ends square so the joint closes tightly at the starting point. Refit the panel and adjust its height so the glass sits flush with the roof, then hose-test the closed roof and check the drain tube outlets before refitting any trim. Expect the roof to close slightly firmly for the first weeks until the new seal takes its set.
