The panoramic roof on the Mercedes compact family rides on thin guide rails and plastic clips that carry the glass panel through thousands of open-close cycles in a hot, dusty roof channel. Over time the rails wear and the clips fatigue, and the first symptoms are a panel that hesitates, jams halfway or clatters over bumps; left alone, the mechanism can distort and strain the motor. Mercedes supplies the fix as the complete sliding sunroof frame (OE A1177800300), one of the most expensive trim assemblies on these cars. This kit rebuilds the mechanism with new stainless steel rails and POM clips at a small fraction of that cost.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE PURCHASING

This kit serves the shared sunroof frame of the A-Class W176, CLA C117 and GLA X156, referenced by OE A1177800300, with rails measuring 62.5 cm. Measure your original rails before ordering, as the C-Class W205 uses a shorter 57.5 cm rail that is not interchangeable, and compare the clip shape with the pieces shown in the product photos. This kit contains the rails and clips only; it does not include the glass panel, motor, cables or seals.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Open the sunroof to its service position, remove the glass panel and release the headliner edge for access to the mechanism. Photograph the original rail and clip positions before disassembly, clean the tracks of old grease and debris, then fit the new rails with the supplied clips exactly as the originals sat. Lubricate the tracks with sunroof-appropriate grease, refit the glass and run the panel through several full cycles, checking alignment and flushness before final closing; re-initialise the sunroof motor if the panel loses its position memory after the repair.
