WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY

Two checks decide fitment. First, confirm your cluster is a VDO unit with km/h graduation, as mph and dual-scale clusters and Motometer units use different gear combinations. Second, count the teeth of your original gears during disassembly and match them to 48x12, 48x16 and 12; if a gear is too damaged to count, count the teeth of the gear it meshes with. PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Work on a clean, static-free bench and remove the cluster following the workshop procedure for your model, protecting the printed circuit foil and the speedometer needle throughout. Photograph the gear train before touching it, ease each old gear off its shaft, and clear every cracked fragment from the mechanism, as loose debris will jam the new train. Press each new gear on squarely to its original depth without lubricating the teeth, rotate the mechanism by hand to confirm smooth engagement, then reassemble and verify both odometer and trip counter advance during a short road test. Patience with the needle removal and refit is the difference between a perfect repair and a second disassembly.
