WHY THE WINDOW FAILS

The motor is rarely where the fault starts. Inside the door the glass is bolted to a plastic carrier running along a steel rail, pulled by thin stainless cables wound around a drum and turned by a small pulley. A working van racks up far more window cycles than a private car, and every cycle loads those components. Heat cycling eventually makes the carrier brittle until it cracks, and the moment the glass loses that mounting point it tilts and binds in the channel. The cable then absorbs a shock load it was never designed for, individual strands break, and the frayed section jams in the pulley or slips off the drum. Replacing all of these wear items together is what makes the repair last.

BEFORE YOU BUY

This set is for the front right door, so confirm the side before ordering, and check that the regulator still in the door is the original Ford unit rather than a previously fitted replacement of a different design. The 2014 and later Connect is a different generation with a different regulator, so match the part number rather than the badge. Lay the old components alongside the new ones before removing anything: two cables, one pulley, one carrier and two springs. Inspect the drum housing and the motor as well, since a stripped drum or a failing motor is a separate fault this set will not cure.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Disconnect the battery, remove the trim panel and moisture barrier, and support the glass with tape or a wedge before releasing cable tension. Photograph the cable routing around the drum and pulley before disassembly, because reversing a single wrap will make the window bind or run short of travel. Seat the carrier squarely on the rail, torque the glass clamp bolts evenly so the glass sits square in the frame, and confirm both cables run free in their sheathing before refitting. Reconnect power and cycle the window through its full travel several times, checking it stops cleanly at both end positions and seals evenly along the top of the frame.
