WHY THE ORIGINAL TRIM FAILS AND HOW THIS SET FIXES IT

The switch bezel on the Golf IV, Bora and Passat B5 door card carries the weight of the driver's arm all day and is grabbed every time the door is pulled shut, and its thin plastic clips were never designed for two decades of that load. The clips snap one by one until the bezel sinks into the armrest and the switch pack rattles, while the soft-touch coating on the grip cover degrades in the sun and becomes tacky, peeling away onto hands and sleeves. This two-piece set replaces both the bezel and the grip cover with parts moulded in ABS, a rigid engineering plastic that holds the clip geometry and the grained surface without the soft coating that fails, so the switches sit firmly again and the door pull feels solid and clean.

WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY

Confirm the part number 3B1867171E or 3B1867171D on the back of your old bezel, or compare the switch aperture layout with the product photos: this is the front left bezel for the four-window switch pack with mirror control, which is the driver's door on left-hand-drive cars and the passenger door on right-hand-drive cars. Black is the identity of this part number; if your interior is grey or beige, the correct bezel carries a different number and a black part will not match. The set does not include the switch pack or the metal door pull handle base, both of which are reused, so check that your switches still work before ordering.

PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION NOTES

Lift the front edge of the old bezel with a plastic trim tool, release its clips and unplug the switch pack connector, then unclip the switch pack from the back of the bezel and press it into the new bezel until it locks. Pull the old grip cover forward off the door pull handle, clean the handle and slide the new cover on until its retainers click. Reconnect the switch pack, offer the bezel to the door card with all clips aligned and press it down evenly; if a door card clip is broken, replace it rather than relying on the bezel to hold the panel. Test every window and mirror function before closing the door.
